ArmInfo. During its meeting on August 7, the RA Government approved places for admission of students to clinical residency and internship for the 2025/2026 academic year with full tuition fees covered by the state in the form of student benefits and available vacancies.
As noted in the justification of the draft decision, 104 free places have been allocated for admission to clinical residency, with 10 allocated to the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, 75 to the RA Ministry of Health and 19 to the RA Ministry of Defense. Additionally, 50 places have been allocated for internship admission with full tuition fee coverage by the state in the form of student benefits and available vacancies. The MESCS provided places based on applications from the RA Ministry of Defense, the RA Ministry of Health and the Yerevan State Medical University Foundation named after Mkhitar Heratsi.
Allocation of places in clinical residency ensures continuity of education, interchangeability of medical specialists in key specialties in the healthcare system, and stability in the provision of medical care and services. The allocation of internship places is aimed at addressing the issue of insufficient medical personnel in the RA Armed Forces. According to the Ministry of Health, the replenishment of regional medical organizations staff through targeted clinical residency programs indicates that the program can help to fill the personnel shortage by 20-40%. The most in-demand professions are family doctors, anesthesiologists, resuscitators, therapists, neurologists, surgeons, pediatricians, etc. Admission to targeted clinical residency is carried out on a competitive basis, with training carried out through government orders, and residents receiving a monthly stipend.
After completing training and receiving the right to independently carry out professional activities, residents are required to conclude an employment contract with an organization recommended by the Ministry of Health, under the conditions proposed by the Ministry, for a minimum period of 3 years. Additionally, the government authorizes the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to reallocate vacant places within the allocated places based on applications from specialized ministries or educational institutions.
