ArmInfo. Any country interested in strengthening mutual trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan and achieve genuine peace in our region should focus its efforts on the release of all detainees in Baku, the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from the territory of the Republic of Armenia and ensuring the right of return for the forcibly displaced Armenians of Artsakh. Ishkhan Saghatelyan, representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party's Supreme Body and member of the opposition faction Hayastan in the National Assembly, stated this on his Facebook page.
He noted that Armenia had already made very painful and "bold" unilateral concessions, but these concessions not only did not stabilize the situation in the region, but further fueled Azerbaijan's ambitions, opening the way to a new war. "Until at least humanitarian issues are resolved, peace talks are a mockery of the Armenian people. Of course, you can sign various memorandums of understanding on peace, you can make dozens of statements, but none of them will bring peace to the region. Throughout history, no power has managed to achieve peace by satisfying all the demands of the aggressor. Such political incompetence has ultimately led to a disaster for everyone. Before doing so, let me note once again that all the agreements reached during this time are made behind the backs of the people and are exclusively negotiated with one person. No influential political force in Armenia, no person or structure with serious authority supports these agreements and the political course of the current regime.
In order to implement the agreements made, the regime is forced to expand the wave of repression each time, and increase the number of political prisoners in the country. Therefore, external forces that rely on Pashinyan's continuous compliance should understand that it is impossible to suppress public discontent in the long term through constant repression," the parliamentarian emphasized.
