ArmInfo. Russia not only does not intend to leave the South Caucasus, but also considers its regional presence here a geopolitical "natural right" based on historical and strategic perception. This opinion was expressed on his Facebook page by former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia David Ananyan in connection with the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Washington.
The former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee drew attention to the fact that the meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev planned under the auspices of US President Donald Trump is already being presented in the world media as a turning point in establishing peace in the protracted conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As Ananyan recalled, the media is circulating information that within the framework of these meetings, a certain document is being prepared to be signed, which in its format will be an agreement. "In fact, in fact and in content, it will become a political statement about the intention to sign a "peace treaty". In fact, not the end point, but the beginning of a new episode between the countries," Ananyan explained.
The former head of the State Revenue Committee noted that all this is happening in a complex geopolitical dynamic. In this vein, he recalled that there is also information about a supposed meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the settlement of the war in Ukraine will be discussed. "If this meeting really takes place, it will mark not only the beginning of a new stage in American-Russian relations, but will also make major adjustments to the map of agreements in the South Caucasus," the former head of the State Revenue Committee believes.
Ananyan noted that all these events prompt the question of whether there is a logic to a certain combination of actions between Moscow and Washington. The former head of the State Revenue Committee believes that if the United States is really going to form a new "peace architecture" in the region through Trump or other people, Moscow is unlikely to ignore this or silently accept it.
"And it is here that it is not opposition that is possible, but tacit agreement, with clear boundaries: who, where and to what extent should exert influence. However, any analysis at this stage should avoid exaggerated forecasts. It has been proven once again that in the modern world nothing is unambiguous: the language of diplomacy often hides the real power or soft calculations on which such meetings are based.
Therefore, nothing should be overestimated, but even more so no one should be underestimated. We live in a period when illusions can be fatal, and sober and deep analysis can save lives," Ananyan concluded.
Earlier the press service of the Armenian government reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will visit the United States from August 7 to 8. According to the source, a bilateral meeting between Pashinyan and US President Donald Trump will take place in Washington, as well as a trilateral meeting with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Meanwhile, Middle East Eye (MEE), citing regional sources familiar with the situation, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Yerevan and Baku in Washington on Friday, which it said would provide Trump with the diplomatic achievement he has been seeking in the region since last month.
