ArmInfo. The conference of European rabbis in Baku will discuss the expansion of the Abraham Accords with the possible participation of Azerbaijan, vesty.co.il reports.
Specifically, according to the information, from November 4 to 6, a representative congress of European rabbis will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, with over 500 delegates from different countries participating. The event, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Conference of European Rabbis, will be held for the first time in a Muslim country. The forum will focus on expanding the Abraham Accords with the possible participation of Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev is expected to be in attendance. The previous congress in Baku was canceled due to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The Abraham Accords, which Trump considers one of the main achievements of his first presidential term, were reached by the Jewish state and a number of Arab countries with US mediation in 2020-2021. In 2020, Bahrain, the UAE and Morocco normalized relations with Israel. In 2021, Sudan announced the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Jewish state. Before these agreements, Israel had only established diplomatic relations with Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994 among Arab states.
Earlier, Azerbaijani media reported, citing Bloomberg and Reuters, that the administration of US President Donald Trump was negotiating with Azerbaijan to join the Abraham Accords. It was noted that participation in the agreements by f Kazakhstan and other Central Asian states was also being considered, but the US is most actively negotiating with Azerbaijan. <In this sense, Azerbaijan is at the top of the list for several reasons. Firstly, because Baku and Israel have a long-established close partnership in various areas - economic, diplomatic, defense. Secondly, Azerbaijan can become a hub of the so-called Middle Corridor, that is, a channel that bypasses Iran for the supply of energy resources, and not only them>, the media wrote. In addition, according to Azerbaijani experts, by signing these agreements, Azerbaijan can open a new chapter in economic cooperation with the United States, where they would no longer have to worry about the 907th amendment, <which was adopted against Azerbaijan thanks to the Armenian lobby in 1992>. Although the 907th amendment, as they note, is now mainly symbolic, until it is repealed, it remains one of the points of pressure on Azerbaijan's policy. If the amendment is eliminated, it will pave way for American investment in Azerbaijan.
