ArmInfo. Water losses in Armenia's water supply system exceed 70%. The issue was brought to light by Garnik Danielyan, MP from the opposition parliamentary faction Hayastan.

The same sad picture is observed in the field of irrigation water. In the Ararat Valley alone, there are over 900 abandoned and illegal wells, from which water leaks to Turkey and Azerbaijan. Only a few dozen of these are mothballed annually, which, naturally, is a consequence of extremely slow work and does not solve the issue, the parliamentarian notes. Meanwhile, there are tens of thousands of irrigated, but unused lands in the Republic of Armenia. In response to his inquiry made a year ago, the government noted that, for example, out of 25,485 hectares in the Tavush region, only 3,759 hectares are currently being irrigated. A similar picture is observed in other regions of the Republic of Armenia, Danielyan is convinced.
