Commenting on his appointment, Yeghishe Melikyan said: "I am proud to have taken up the post of head coach of the Armenian national team. I am aware of the complexity of the moment and all the responsibility, but I am ready to go through this path with honor. I will make all my decisions for the benefit of the national team and Armenian football.
Now is the time to join forces. I call on the entire football community to unite around the national team." FFA President Armen Melikbekyan, commenting on the appointment of Yeghishe Melikyan, noted: "The Football Federation of Armenia has decided to change the vector of development of the Armenian national team. We are grateful to John van't Schip for his work.
Now we entrust the leadership of the national team to an Armenian specialist who knows Armenian football from the inside, having gone from being a player of the Armenian national team to a coach who has twice won the championship in Armenian club football in recent years. We hope that thanks to the cooperation and daily hard work of the FFA staff and Yeghishe Melikyan, the Armenian national team will be able to achieve good results. I believe that thanks to consolidation and unity, we will be able to take a step forward."
