ICRC acted as independent observer in condition of Azerbaijani  dictatorship - Armenian MP

ArmInfo.  The presence of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the conditions of the Azerbaijani dictatorship and "lawlessness" ensured a certain vigilance and the status of a "third observer".

This opinion was expressed on his Facebook page by Tigran Abrahamyan,  a member of the National Assembly from the opposition faction "I have  the honor", in connection with the closure of the representative  office in the country, as well as various UN programs and  correspondent offices of international media.

"In fact, in the conditions of the illegal detention of Armenian  prisoners of war in Azerbaijan, the only international structure that  visited them until June of this year, provided contact with their  relatives, informed them about their health and more is being closed.  However, there has been no reaction from any serious entity on this  matter," the oppositionist noted.

Meanwhile, according to him, no other structure, organization or  superpower that talks about human rights and the rule of law and  operates in this area has shown serious concern or responded to what  is happening.  Abrahamyan explained in this vein that they need  Azerbaijan in order to bypass Russia in terms of energy and  infrastructure, to seat it at the same table with Armenia and use it  against Iran, in conditions when democracy and fundamental human  rights are no longer valuable.

The ICRC is the only international humanitarian organization that has  access to Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Baku.

Moreover, the ICRC is the only source of information on the condition  of Armenians held in Baku.

The exact number of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages held in  Azerbaijani prisons is still unknown.  According to experts, there  are several hundred. Today, the Azerbaijani authorities confirm that  they have 23 Armenians. Among those held in Azerbaijani captivity are  8 former and current representatives of the military-political  leadership of Artsakh. These are former presidents of Artsakh Arkady  Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former Minister of  Foreign Affairs David Babayan, as well as the speaker of parliament  David Ishkhanyan, former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army,  General Levon Mnatsakanyan, General David Manukyan and former state  minister Ruben Vardanyan.
