ArmInfo. The second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan is not a unifying, but a deconsolidating force, whose presence complicates the possible consolidation of the opposition camp. This is the opinion of political scientist Suren Surenyants.
"Yesterday I followed the interview of the second President Robert Kocharyan with great attention, expecting to hear decisions, formulas for public consolidation.
Unfortunately, my expectations were not met, since Kocharyan was unable to overcome the complex of overestimating his own political role>, - the political scientist wrote on the social network.
In particular, Surenyants notes, Robert Kocharyan states that today two large blocs have formed on the political field: the Bloc and the political force created by Samvel Karapetyan.
However, he believes that the facts show a completely different picture. bloc, after the 2021 elections, lost its second party: left it. Due to the Kocharyan factor, an ambiguous situation has developed within the ARF, in the elite and ranks of which, it seems, there is no clear consensus regarding the leadership of the second president>, - he noted.
In political or institutional terms, the political scientist points out, the bloc has not participated in any local government elections since 2021, did not participate in the elections in Yerevan and Gyumri, did not participate in the largest , does not support the impeachment process,
"Today, the Armenia bloc actually operates only in the format of a parliamentary faction and does not have organized political activity or an institutional structure.
The Armenia bloc is currently not a large formation, but a parliamentary remnant.
In that case, what is Kocharyan talking about?>, Surenyants asks.
Referring to the political force created by Karapetyan, he writes: to be a force that does not yet exist: there is no registered party, no ideology and program, no structure and no public activity. Karapetyan's only advantage - financial resources - has not yet been transformed into political capital>
"Samvel Karapetyan's emerging force certainly has potential, but what influence can we talk about if this force does not even exist in the legal field?" he asks.
In his opinion, the real context of Kocharyan's thesis is that he is trying to create the impression that the political field is polarizing around him. But in fact, his isolation in the field is obvious, other parties and individuals avoid speaking on the same platform with him, his statements rather create the illusion of a role than reflect reality, he notes.
"Kocharyan is not a consolidating, but a deconsolidating force, whose presence complicates the possible consolidation of the opposition camp. His thesis about 'two large blocs' is not supported by facts.
The bloc is practically inactive, the force of Samvel Karapetyan has not yet been born. And of the political field are still waiting for their real actors, not illusions>, - wrote Suren Surenyants.
