ArmInfo. Yerevan. August 1. ArmInfo, Naira Badalian. The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has completed the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated in connection with the report received from the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia on preparations for murder. It should be noted that this concerns the charge brought against businessman Stepan Samvelyan in the context of the case of the assassination attempt on the leader of the Republic Party Aram Sargsyan.
According to the information of the investigative body, during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, obvious factual data were obtained that S.S. was preparing the murder of A.S. in July 2025.
In particular, in order to illegally take the life of A.S. and prepare for murder, S.S. under unknown circumstances, intentionally acquired and stored in his home one factory-made combat hand grenade of the F-1 type with one detonator of the type, which was the weapon of the crime and ammunition.
"Then S.S., in order to commit the murder of A.S. using a combat grenade, having failed to establish his residential address, began to inspect his office premises in the city of Yerevan and the adjacent territory, repeatedly visiting the adjacent territory for this purpose. In the absence of A.S. in the office premises, S.S., due to circumstances beyond his control, was unable to begin committing the objective side of the crime, envisaged by intent, and further actions were prevented, since the weapon of the crime - a combat hand grenade, which is a weapon - was found on him during a joint search of S.S.'s home with S.S. officers," the report says.
A public criminal prosecution has been instituted against S.S. under Part 1 of Art. 43-155 (preparation for murder) and Part 1 of Article 335 (illegal circulation of firearms, their main parts, ammunition and other materials, devices, objects) of the Criminal Code.
A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for the latter.
The criminal case was sent to the supervising prosecutor with an indictment.
Businessman Stepan Samvelyan, arrested in the case of organizing an assassination attempt on the leader of the Republic party Aram Sargsyan, denies the charges brought against him. Earlier, lawyer Zaruhi Postanjyan reported that Stepan Samvelyan's condition had sharply worsened at the Investigative Committee. An ambulance team arrived at the scene to provide first aid. According to the lawyer, Samvelyan is seriously ill: he suffered a heart attack and a stroke, as a result of which the man has problems with coordination and memory, and his speech is impaired. According to Postanjyan, the entire process against Samvelyan is illegal:
the businessman was wiretapped, and the charges were based on the wiretapping and a combat grenade found during a search of his home.
We also note that Samvelyan, according to online video recordings, accused Aram Sargsyan of stealing part of his business. He also condemned the actions of the Armenian authorities and those who assist them.
