ArmInfo. Russian war correspondent Alexander Kots, responding to threats from the Azerbaijani state agency AzerTaj against the Russian TASS, proposed demolishing Azerbaijani monuments on the territory of the Russian Federation.
"AzerTaj teaches TASS geography. The Azerbaijani news agency, which is still accredited in Russia, demands in an ultimatum form that TASS write not "Stepanakert", but "Khankendi". We are talking about the headline "Aivazovsky monument demolished in Stepanakert".
In fact, the agency does not care at all about the monument itself. And the image of the country that barbarically demolishes monuments is also not concerned. Not a word is devoted to Aivazovsky and the reasons for the demolition of the monument," the journalist stated in his Telegram channel.
According to him, journalists threaten to "use the historical names of the cities of Kaliningrad (Konigsberg), Orenburg (Orynbor), Volgograd (Sarysu), Grozny (Solzha-Gala), Novorossiysk (Sudzhuk- Kale), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Toyohara), Yuzhno-Kurilsk (Furukamappu), Petrozavodsk (Petroskoi), Izhevsk (Izhkar), the Volga River (Itil) and a number of other names." "Well, according to the laws of the genre, we should first demolish the monuments to Azerbaijani artists in these cities. Is there anyone of Aivazovsky's level, so as not to waste time on trifles?" the war correspondent asked a rather rhetorical question.
The monument by sculptor Salavat Shcherbakov (the author of the Moscow monument to Heydar Aliyev) disappeared on July 30 - the artist's birthday. The Atsakh Tourism and Culture Development Agency reported that the monument, erected in 2021, was demolished. The agency called the demolition another example of the policy of eliminating the Armenian cultural trace in the region.
