ArmInfo. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MECS) of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan said that in the new academic year, schools in the republic will have a new textbook on the history of the Armenian people for the 9th grade, which is now called "History of Armenia".
Thus, on her Facebook page, she published photos of the cover and the first page of the textbook, which indicate that the book covers events from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The textbook will be introduced into the school curriculum starting September 1. On the first page of the textbook, the photo posted by the minister, this period is described as "the restoration of the state".
It is noteworthy that the minister, having posted the publication, limited the ability to comment on her post. However, this did not stop people from expressing their dissatisfaction with these innovations in the country's educational system. I have no opportunity to express my position directly under Andreasyan's publication, citizens shared the publication, adding their comment.
For example, user Mikael Martirosyan, who is the head of the youth projects "Kamk" (Will) in Lori, quoted the words of the Armenian historian Movses Khorenatsi from the work "Lament for the Armenian Country": "I grieve for you, Armenian world, I grieve for you, the greatest of all northern peoples, for your king and priest, your adviser and teacher have disappeared, peace has been broken, disorder has taken root, Orthodoxy has been desecrated, and ignorance has established impiety."
The Armenian authorities initiated changes in the history of the Armenian people despite public protest. Andreasyan ignored all the comments of the country's scientific community. The latter pointed out the presence of serious conceptual, methodological and pedagogical problems in the newly-minted textbooks compiled by the author, elected by the MESKS. They emphasized the need to create a textbook not by one person, but by a group of experts specializing in various historical periods. In addition, the prevalence of hypothetical approaches in the text instead of relying on irrefutable facts was noted.
The experts expressed the conviction that the Armenian authorities are thus seeking to minimize the historical heritage of the Armenian people. Renaming the subject "History of the Armenian People" to "History of Armenia" was considered another anti-national initiative, since the history of Armenia covers a wider range, including the history of the Armenian people from Hayk to Urartu, all Armenian kingdoms and the rich history of the Armenian diaspora over the centuries. While modern Armenia was formed only two centuries ago, mainly as a result of the Armenian Genocide and loss of independence.
