ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities are intentionally distorting the negotiation process for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as stated by Artur Khachatryan, MP from the opposition faction "Armenia" in a conversation with journalists during the presentation of his two-volume "Artsakh Negotiations".
As an example, he cited the distortion of the the Kiev document of 2001 (then negotiations took place between the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and Heydar Aliyev, with the participation of French President Jacques Chirac - ed.). Khachatryan claimed that there are many facts supporting this accusation.
"Moreover, when authorities refer to the "Lavrov document" (a five-stage plan for resolving the Artsakh issue, according to which the status of the NKR was to be determined later - ed.), they claim that Artsakh has no path to independence, or that the issue of NKR independence was not discussed at all, I can refute these claims with numerous facts. No such thing indeed," Khachatryan added. The oppositionist expressed confidence that Armenian authorities understand the legacy of the Artsakh negotiations handed down to them. "The authorities are intentionally distorting facts in suit to their own agenda, which is why they are hesitant to release the proposal presented to them in 2019 (a draft settlement based on a phased approach, proposed on April 15, 2019 in Moscow - ed.)," the MP concluded.
