ArmInfo. Medical corruption in Armenia has become extremely dangerous, with patients dying instead of recovering. Lawyer Zaruhi Postanjyan warns about this on her Facebook page. Postanjyan has submitted a report on the crime to the Prosecutor General of Armenia, the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee and the Human Rights Defender.
According to her, corruption take place when government representatives provide unlawful advantages, particularly, to private medical institutions. After reviewing the documents, Postanjyan found that the management of Wigmore Clinic CJSC, the Ministry of Health of Armenia and the Health and Labor Inspectorate had collectively engaged in illegal actions that could lead to criminal charges under the Criminal Code of Armenia.
The lawyer said that the Ministry of Health of Armenia had granted Wigmore Clinic CJSC numerous unlimited licenses for providing medical care and services. "Over the past two years, the clinic received unlimited licenses for complex surgeries signed by Vahe Aleksanyan, the head of the licensing agency of the Ministry of Health," Postanjyan said.
She also pointed out that the clinic lacked the appropriate medical personnel to perform this type of surgery, and intensive care unit with necessary equipment for postoperative care. As a result, a patient died several months ago due to a surgical procedure performed by a doctor who worked there without a contract and improper postoperative treatment. In light of this, she demanded that criminal proceedings be initiated and a decision be made to initiate public criminal prosecution against at least the director of Wigmore Clinic CJSC, Zaven Koloyan, and the head of the licensing agency of the Ministry of Health, Vahe Aleksanyan.
