
ArmInfo. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MESC) of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan and the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of Greece Sofia Zacharaki signed a cooperation program in the field of education and science for 2025-2029.
As reported by the press service of the MESC, the document was signed during Andreasyan's working visit to Athens. During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of deepening friendly and multilateral relations between Armenia and Greece, as well as the need to encourage initiatives aimed at exchanging best practices. In this regard, she drew attention to the fact that expanding international cooperation is one of the key areas for the development of higher education and science in Armenia.
Touching upon the ongoing reforms in the field of higher education, the Minister presented the project of the Academic City, the creation of which is envisaged by the "State Program for the Development of Education in Armenia until 2030". Andreasyan also drew attention to the importance of developing partnerships within the EU Erasmus+ program, especially through the implementation of student and teacher exchange programs, as well as other joint initiatives.
In this regard, the head of the Ministry of Education and Science expressed readiness to share the Armenian experience, noting that in Armenia, high-quality educational services are also provided through non-formal education. In particular, she highlighted the activities of the Tumo creative technology center and the Armath engineering laboratories.
The parties exchanged views on cooperation with Greek educational institutions in the field of vocational education and training (VET), as well as discussed issues related to joint educational programs. In this regard, Andreasyan reported that in 2024, the National Assembly adopted a new law "On Vocational Education and Training", developed with the support of the EU and other international partners as a result of long-term cooperation. In this context, the parties also discussed the importance of the activities of the Armenian-Greek State College of Tourism, Service and Food Industry in Yerevan and the possibility of implementing exchange programs.
During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed, including deepening the study of the ancient Greek language at the Mesrop Mashtots Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts and at the Theological Faculty of Yerevan State University.
