
ArmInfo. In Armenia, 31% of respondents believe that the country's foreign policy should be pro-Western, but with maintaining relations with Russia, as evidenced by data from a new poll carried out by the Research Center of the International Republican Institute (IRI).
26% are in favor of a pro-Russian policy, while also maintaining relations with the EU and the West, 14% - exclusively pro-European and pro-Western, 8% - pro-Russian, 13% - other, and another 9% found it difficult to answer.
When asked how they would vote if there was a referendum on joining the EU next Sunday, 49% of respondents said they would vote "for" joining the European Union, 31% said they would not participate in the vote, 15% would vote against, and another 5% found it difficult to answer. It is noteworthy that in September 2024, 58% would vote "for" joining the EU, 13% would vote against, 25% would not participate, and 3% found it difficult to answer. Interestingly, 37% of respondents named ensuring security as the main reason of joining the EU, 18% - strengthening the economy, 10% - developing the country, and only 5% named visa liberalization. Additionally, 14% of respondents believe that joining the EU will lead to a deterioration of family values in Armenia, another 14% believe that national values will be under attack, 9% - this will cause problems in the security sphere, 8% - will have a negative economic impact, 8% - thought that this will anger Russia, and another 5% - are sure that it will lead to security challenges from the Russian Federation. 19% provided other answers, 18% - found it difficult to answer, and another 4% - are sure that there will be no negative consequences. When asked whether they would support the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, 29% of respondents said yes, 18% - rather yes, 8% - rather no, 33% - no, 10% - said that everything depends on the final requirements, and 2% - found it difficult to answer.
