ArmInfo. The US is a friendly country for Armenia, and Russia is an ally. However, the issue doesn't lie with them, but rather with the Armenian authorities. Tigran Abrahamyan, NA member from the opposition faction "I Have Honor," wrote in a post on his Facebook page while commenting on Yerevan's intentions to outsource a corridor through the country's territory.
According to the oppositionist, when the issue of the corridor's logic was brought up in foreign policy discussions, 3-4 options were considered. For example, the Meghri route has an anti-Iranian focus, with Israel and the US being the main proponents of its use.
"But in geopolitical terms, the basis of all these discussions about regional unblocking is the removal of Russia from the region. This situation has led to a sharp confrontation between the West and Russia in Armenia. The country's authorities are trying to misrepresent the topic, by saying that the opposition to the government's initiative stems from concerns that the corridor will be controlled not by Russia, but, for example, by the United States. Regardless of the viewpoints, the real issue lies not in choosing different geopolitical centers, but in upholding the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia," the parliamentarian noted.
