ArmInfo. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisogomonyan met with Kathryne Bomberger, Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), in The Hague.
As reported by the Armenian Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, views were exchanged on expanding cooperation between Armenia and the International Commission on Missing Persons, particularly in terms of technical re-equipment and capacity development of relevant laboratories in Armenia.
Touching upon recent regional developments, the Deputy Foreign Minister presented Armenia's efforts to promote the peace agenda in the region and emphasized the importance of the early signing a peace agreement and the establishment of interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Note that the exact number of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages held in Azerbaijani prisons is still unknown. According to the latest data from the International Committee of the Red Cross, as of August 2024, about 1,000 people are considered missing on the Armenian side, with about 300 people being classified as such following the latest escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in the period from autumn 2020 to autumn 2023. Moreover, all data was gathered by the ICRC based on appeals from the relatives of the missing persons themselves. The ICRC also reported that among these 300 people, there are several dozen cases where the family disputed the DNA information provided by the state.
