ArmInfo. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan does not think that a campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church has been launched on his own initiative.
Speaking at a press conference in Yerevan on July 16, Pashinyan noted that he cannot campaign against the church, since no one can defend something that does not exist in reality and cannot take place. The Prime Minister emphasized that for him and his family, the Armenian Apostolic Church is sacred, against which it is impossible to launch a campaign. "Everything we do is being done in the name of the church, because otherwise we would have shown complete indifference to the destructive processes that are taking place in the AAC, especially in the conditions in which the activities of some representatives of the clergy directly harm the church itself," the head of government said. He added that as a follower of the AAC, he is in favor of "renovating" it.
Pashinyan expressed confidence that this stance is shared by thousands of people, including the entire army of followers of the Armenian Church, who cannot help but see the downfall of the church. Specifically, as the head of state noted, some priests from the hierarchs of the AAC made statements like "What are you talking about. Who can live without a woman for one month". "And this means that those who break the vow of celibacy, do not observe fasts on major holidays. I have not curse and do not curse them, I just announced the beginning of the process of freeing the Patriarchate from such clergy," the RA Prime Minister said.
