ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is attempting to devalue the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) through his actions against it, according to Ara Abrahamyan, the head of the Union of Armenians of Russia, as reported by RIA Novosti.
"He is fully aware of his declining rating. He understands that the Church is the only institution capable of uniting the Armenian people and influencing the elections (to parliament in 2026. - Ed.). And he simply has started to target the church," he said.
According to Abrahamyan, Pashinyan himself has no connection to the AAC, he has never even shown himself as a believer. He emphasized that the AAC plays a very important role for Armenians. When asked about the possibility of Pashinyan arresting Catholicos Karekin II, Abrahamyan said that anything could be expected from the prime minister.
