ArmInfo. Doctor of Political Science at Stanford University in the USA, member of the initiative group of the Mother Armenia movement Artur Khachikyan told what awaits Armenia in the event of the transfer of its territory under the control of a private organization from a third country.
"When control over Meghri passes to a private company, for example, an American one, Turkey can become its owner. This can be done by buying out the company's shares, transferring the management of this company to the Turkish side, that is, making it part of a larger Turkish company, signing an agreement between this company and the Turkish government and many other ways," he noted in his post on Facebook.
The political scientist is confident that when this happens, Turkiye will become the owner of Meghri and will have the right to defend it with military force. "If Armenia tries to take it back in the future, Turkey will invade Syunik and create a security zone, as it did in Syria. After that, Turkey will never leave, as it has not left Cyprus since the 1970s. Let's congratulate this group of traitors and those who voted for them. This is the end of the Republic of Armenia," he concluded.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Armenian Prime Minister Nazeli Baghdasaryan said that Armenia is not discussing the possibility of transferring control over its territory connecting Azerbaijan with its Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic to a third party. This was her response to the words of the US Ambassador to Turkey, US President's Special Representative for Syria Thomas Barrack that the United States is ready to manage the transport corridor through Armenia's Syunik in an attempt to advance the negotiations between Baku and Yerevan.
The Meghri route is a project for a transport route about 40 km long through the territory of the Syunik region of Armenia, which would provide transport links between the western regions of Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. The opening of transport routes in the region was envisaged by point 9 of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 by the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan is trying to distort the essence of these agreements and obtain an extraterritorial corridor.
