ArmInfo. . Yesterday's meeting in Abu Dhabi between RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, contrary to the expectations of the Armenian authorities, turned out to be, to put it mildly, unsuccessful. Azerbaijan expert Tatevik Hayrapetyan shares this point of view.
In her analysis on her Facebook page, she noted that even the Armenian prime minister's propaganda machine is silent on the matter, perhaps believing that it is not worth so actively spreading false expectations about the meeting. "In my opinion, Pashinyan hoped that his numerous efforts to meet the demands of the Azerbaijani side would be appreciated. Moreover, Erdogan intervened, the American side exerted pressure, and, as a result, Aliyev will come not with new demands, but with the intention of consolidating what has already been achieved. But this did not happen, because no one can understand and comprehend Aliyev's inexhaustible appetite, who knows exactly what he wants, and therefore resists various international pressures. What happened that the head of Azerbaijan did not put forward new demands? Aliyev understands perfectly well that until a clear set of tools is used against him, and all geopolitical players simply flatter him, the cards will be in his hands, and the game can continue. None of the players wants to understand how important it is for the Aliyev administration to maintain the image of an enemy that he cannot abandon. Even after 2020, the President of Azerbaijan is increasingly promoting this image. Against this background, there is no and cannot be real reconciliation between peoples; in Azerbaijan, they even arrest those who talk about reconciliation," the expert wrote.
She added that after November 9, at a meeting with Pashinyan, she directly told him that the defeated leader could not negotiate, it was not in the interests of Armenia for objective and subjective reasons. "I did not say this to offend him, it was unpleasant for me to say this, I simply said what I thought, because I need a full-fledged and truly sovereign Armenia, as a citizen of Armenia, I need the interests of the Armenian state to be represented in the negotiations. I do not want the representatives of my state to return with an updated list of Aliyev's wishes against my state. I would be very glad to be wrong, and I would very much like the defeated leader to be able to negotiate in the interests of Armenia, but unfortunately, the reality is completely different ... ", - noted Tatevik Hayrapetyan.
Meanwhile, according to the expert, Aliyev has so many vulnerabilities, so many missed opportunities that even in this difficult situation there are still opportunities to change the situation in the interests of Armenia. This requires intelligence, will, perseverance and tireless work.
