ArmInfo. Since early morning on July 10, representatives of the Armenian law enforcement agencies have conducted searches in the homes of members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation "Dashnaktsutyun" (ARF), including the member of the Armenian parliament from the opposition faction "Armenia" Gegham Manukyan.
As reported by the press service of the political force, searches were also conducted at the head of the staff of the supreme body of the ARF Vahagn Matinyan and member of the Yerevan city committee of the ARF Arsen Martoyan.
"Searchs are also being conducted at the home of member of the Council of Elders of the Yeghvard community Gevorg Muradyan," the ARF added.
In a conversation with journalists, MP Manukyan said that representatives of the Investigative Committee of Armenia and the National Security Service broke into his home without providing reasonable explanations for the reasons for the search. In addition, at the last moment they announced that they were detaining his son, Taron Manukyan.
"My house has been searched since early morning. They took my phone, which is a personal item of a member of parliament, therefore, they had no right to take it. However, they did not explain the reasons to us, it is about some criminal case related to representatives of our youth movement, which I will talk about later," Manukyan said.
According to him, videotapes, as well as one of the computers and the phone of Taron's son, were seized during the searches.
"They also searched my phone. They were interested in the name of the person who is now being targeted in the political circles of the ruling party. Without cameras, they took me out to the balcony for a conversation, tried to use force and even injured my hand, but nothing serious," he added.
Manukyan is sure that this is another political order and persecution. He also reported that he received reports of the detention of members of the youth movement of their party. And Manukyan's associate, MP Kristine Vardanyan, reported that the detained ARF members were taken to the Investigative Committee department on Paruyr Sevak Street.
The footage distributed by the media shows that Gegham Manukyan's house is completely turned upside down: all the things are scattered as a result of active searches.
In turn, lawyer Abgar Poghosyan reported that Taron Manukyan was not only illegally arrested, but is also currently prohibited from meeting with his defense attorneys. "I contacted the human rights defender. An objective question arises: if the alleged criminal prosecution concerns Taron Manukyan, then why was MP Gegham Manukyan's mobile phone seized," the lawyer asked.
Recently, detentions and searches in the homes of opposition representatives, including members of the Dashnaktsutyun party, have become more frequent in Armenia. It is noteworthy that these searches and detentions began immediately after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan returned from Turkey. And today, searches in the homes of ARF members coincided with the day of Pashinyan's planned meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
