On July 9, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received Jasmine Dum-Tragut, an Austrian specialist in Armenian studies, Director of the Center for the Study Christian East at the University of Salzburg, Head of the Armenian Studies Departmeny, who is currently participating in the Second International Congress of Armenian Studies at the Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan also participated in the meeting.
As reported by the press service of MESCS, the Minister noted the activities of Jasmine Dum-Tragut in Armenian studies. Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the strategic importance of developing Armenian studies, noting that this is one of the priorities of the RA government. According to her, Armenian studies have the potential to compete at an international level in humanitarian and social sciences. She also proposed exploring opportunities for collaboration between the University of Salzburg and higher education institutions in Armenia through joint programs. Jasmine Dum-Tragut thanked for the reception and presented the activities of the Department of Armenian Studies at the University of Salzburg, along with upcoming programs.
The meeting also discussed issues related to the conference held last year at the Complutense University of Madrid, which involved the participation of Armenian Studies Centers, as well as the holding of a new conference at the University of Salzburg. The implementation of joint programs with the Language Committee for the development of the Armenian language and various other matters related to the development of Armenian studies were also discussed.
