ArmInfo. A draft amendment to the Criminal Code regarding the obstruction of medical workers' legal professional activities has been submitted to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Chairman of the NA Committee on Healthcare Arsen Torosyan shared this information on his Facebook page.
According to him, he has co-authored the relevant legislative initiative with NA deputies Hasmik Hakobyan and Aren Mkrtchyan. "Considering the recent cases of attacks on medical workers and obstruction of their professional activities, a draft amendment to the Criminal Code has been submitted after lengthy discussions. It proposes criminal liability for obstructing the legitimate professional activities of medical workers, with stricter liability if accompanied by a threat of violence. The Criminal Code already addresses liability for cases of violence, and we must work to improve its application, and as a society, we must understand that obstructing, threatening or using violence against medical workers and against persons performing their professional duty, such as police officers or rescuers is unacceptable. First of all, such behavior is unacceptable towards anyone, but we must always remember that it may result in harm to someone in need of medical care, and that someone may be close to us," wrote Arsen Torosyan.
