ArmInfo. On July 9, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction will discuss the arrest of the RA National Assembly deputy Artur Sargsyan.
Before the hearing, lawyer Aram Vrdevanyan expressed hope that the court will take into account the behavior of the deputy, who himself came to the building of the Investigative Committee and waited five hours for a decision on his arrest. The accusation against Sargsyan Vardevanyan is based on speculation. In particular, it is based on an audio recording that allegedly contains calls to commit terrorist acts and overthrow the legitimate government. However, as the lawyer noted, these recordings do not contain the idea of a coup d'etat or preparation for one. Moreover, the representative of the defense continued, the lawyers studied these recordings, in which the sound is either not audible or interrupted. As for the prevention of the crime, Vardevanyan emphasized that the prosecution must justify its steps to prevent this crime, as well as the fact that the accused did not abandon his plans. Moreover, the case materials do not say anything about Sargsyan's participation in the formation of assault groups. "By the way, the planning of the actions took place in April 2018, and these discussions were recorded on video, but no one brought any charges against the current government," Vardevanyan emphasized.
The day before, the RA National Assembly granted the petition of the RA Prosecutor General's Office to deprive MP Artur Sargsyan of immunity for assisting the "Sacred Struggle" movement and gave the go- ahead for actions related to his deprivation of freedom.
