ArmInfo. The active participation of international teams and athletes in competitions in various sports speaks of the high demand in the region for holding such tournaments. And this demand should be met in Yerevan. This was stated by Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a working meeting of the City Hall on July 7.
In his opinion, Yerevan has a significant opportunity to contribute to the development of sports. <And we must continue to be very active in this regard>, the mayor noted. In this context, Avinyan attached importance to the development of infrastructure.
In particular, he noted that the main task of the City Hall, in addition to holding international sports events, is to develop the relevant infrastructure. In this vein, Avinyan said that work will soon begin on the foundation of a sports school named after A.Azaryan, then a figure skating school, while repairs and modernization of existing sports facilities are being carried out in parallel. During the meeting, the mayor was informed that in 3 years, 5 sports from Armenia have been included in the official calendar of international federations: football, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and boxing.
"We started all this work in September-October 2022, and today the existing indicators are actually impressive," Avinyan noted.
