ArmInfo. This year, Armenia will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Constitution at the "peak of its sovereignty", writes Vahe Hovhannisyan, a member of the Alternative Projects Group, in his article.
According to him, the result of this sovereignty is the invasion of armed forces into the Mother See of Etchmiadzin, the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Stepanakert, two influential Armenian billionaires in prisons in Yerevan and Baku, two archbishops in the NSS detention center, and Artsakh has become depopulated. "Those who follow the instructions of the "pictures on the wall" are silent, and those who fight against the same pictures have no plan of action. The President is silent, the people are misled, Amaras and Gandzasar are turning into closets, the enemy has a big appetite, the country has no allies. Did we have a chance to develop in such a way that this tragic situation would not happen in 30 years? Of course, we did. We did it all wrong. Is it possible to stop the scenario we are heading down? There is still a way, but for this we need public dialogue and programmatic thinking. We should have realized long ago that nothing can be done in just a month of "strategic thinking" and impulsive ideas. Is it possible to change the Constitution? Not only is it possible, but it may also be necessary. But before that, we need to change the situation we are in and evaluate it. Only after this change will it be possible to change the Constitution, taking into account the gross mistakes of the seven- year tragedy. In the conditions of internal hostility and disunity, the Constitution cannot be changed at the request of foreigners. This will lead to a new, an uglier reality. At some point, of course, a new Constitution will be needed, which will create mechanisms to increase the stability of state institutions, so as to never again concentrate all power in the hands of one person, so as not to allow fatal mistakes. The new Constitution should also create new rules of coexistence, opportunities for pluralism and its implementation, for the formation of a new society. But before that, we must change. Nothing good can be born in the conditions of an unchanging reality and an unchanging internal atmosphere," the political scientist noted.
