ArmInfo. President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador of Canada to Armenia, Andrew Turner. As reported by the Office of the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan congratulated the Ambassador on Canada's national holiday and asked him to convey warm wishes to the leadership and friendly people of Canada.
"The development of relations between our countries in recent years is impressive. I express my gratitude for the support that the Government of Canada provides to Armenia, particularly in matters of independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty. This is a very important factor. Iindependence and sovereignty of the state are the most important guarantees for people to feel safe and think about development," the President noted.
Vahagn Khachaturyan also expressed gratitude for Canada's standing by Armenia during challenging times, expressing its solidarity. In this context, Canada's participation in the EU Monitoring Mission was particularly emphasized, calling it a valuable contribution to strengthening security and peace in the region. Ambassador Andrew Turner expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and best wishes. "I am glad for this meeting. It is always a good occasion to celebrate Armenian-Canadian friendship. This is the second time we are celebrating Canada Day together since the opening of the embassy here. I think that we have, as you noted, achieved impressive progress in our relations over the past year," the Ambassador said.
Andrew Turner noted that Canada highly appreciates Armenia's ongoing efforts aimed at peace and stability in the region and will continue to provide assistance in this regard. He also expressed Canada's willingness to assist the Armenian leadership in its steps towards strengthening democracy in the country. The importance of efforts aimed at promoting cooperation between Armenia and Canada in areas of mutual interest was noted. The parties stressed the importance of consistent work to strengthen cooperation in the economic sphere, in trade and in high-tech. They also underscored the significance of parliamentary diplomacy and the application of Canadian best practices in terms of developing political culture and establishing democratic institutions. The potential for enhancing cultural ties were also touched upon. In this context, the potential for cooperation within the framework of Francophonie was highlighted.
