


ArmInfo.Against the backdrop of worsening Russian-Azerbaijani relations, Russians in Azerbaijan, including tourists, have reported cases of physical violence against them by individuals in civilian clothes who claimed to be police officers, as reported by RIA Novosti, citing the Russian embassy in Baku.
"In response to the numerous media requests for comments on recent events in Baku, we inform you that over the past 24 hours the embassy has received numerous requests from citizens of the Russian Federation who are in Azerbaijan, including for tourism purposes. They have reported that people in civilian clothes (some of whom introduced themselves as police officers), have visited their places of residence to inquire about their reasons for staying in the country and to check their documents. S some of those who reached out to us, have also reported instances of physical violence being used against them and their family members," the embassy said in a statement.
On June 30, the Azerbaijani authorities unjustly detained seven people at the Sputnik Azerbaijan agency, a part of the Rossiya Segodnya media group. Sputnik Azerbaijan editorial board chief Igor Kartavykh and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov have been arrested for a period of four months.
