ArmInfo. Armenian border guards at Zvartnots airport are preventing doctor, professor Armen Charchyan from leaving the country. Lawyer Erik Aleksanyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
According to him, Armen Charchyan was supposed to fly to Madrid today, where he was supposed to take part in the World Congress of Armenian Doctors. Armen Charchyan, being a member of the administrative council, was supposed to deliver a report at this congress. However, the issue has not yet been resolved.
The lawyer noted that the border guards are referring to the ban on Armen Charchyan's departure. Meanwhile, the court decision to lift the restriction on free movement was sent to the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia a long time ago. "On June 23, the police assured us that the restriction on the SECT system had been lifted. This is blatant legal nihilism. I demand a written explanation from the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs. This is a serious blow to the authority of the Republic of Armenia. Okay, how long can this go on?" the lawyer wrote.
In June 2021, on the eve of the parliamentary elections, the director of the Izmirlyan Medical Center Armen Charchyan was accused of pressuring voters. He spent several months under arrest, after which he was released on bail. Last fall, Charchyan, being a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "Armenia", refused his parliamentary mandate, again heading the Izmirlyan Medical Center.
On February 5, 2024, the court sentenced Charchyan to three years and seven months of probation. In June of this year, the Cassation Court rejected the appeal of the Prosecutor General of Armenia, which means that the punishment is not applicable to Armen Charchyan.
