ArmInfo.Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan introduced the newly appointed director of the Service, Andranik Simonyan to the staff and also outlined the key areas of focus for their work.
According to the government press service, Nikol Pashinyan first of all thanked Armen Abazyan for his work as director of the National Security Service, emphasizing that in recent years the service has undergone a significant process of transformation and reform. The Prime Minister also noted that a draft strategy for the further development of the National Security Service has been created and will be adopted soon in accordance with the established procedure, ensuring further progress and development of the service. Armen Abazyan thanked the Prime Minister for the trust placed in him during this challenging period and congratulated Andranik Simonyan, wishing him success and a fruitful term of service. Introducing the newly appointed Director of the Service, Nikol Pashinyan pointed out that Andranik Simonyan is not new to the Service, as he has been serving as Deputy Director for over four years.
Andranik Simonyan also thanked the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia for entrusting him with such a responsible position. He stressed that it is a great honor to serve the Republic of Armenia and the citizens of the Republic of Armenia as the head of the Special Service.
According to Nikol Pashinyan, the government's strategy also plays a significant role in continuously improving the efficiency of the work. In this context, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the three main functions that the NSS should focus on: counterintelligence, fighting against terrorism, and maintaining constitutional order. "I believe that the government is also creating sufficient conditions for the service to focus on these functions. Since 2018, the funding of the NSS has tripled," the head of state noted.
Touching upon the recent disclosure of a planned crime against the statehood, security and stability of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan noted: "Today's challenges are hybrid in nature, with features of both terrorism and violation of the constitutional order and counterintelligence activities. The system of hybrid threats is currently widely discussed in the world, and I would like us to expand our understanding in the context of implementing these three functions."
The Prime Minister assured that the government will continue to provide all necessary conditions to enhance the effectiveness of the NSS, for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia, its statehood, its people, citizens and their future.
