ArmInfo.Participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a sovereign decision of Armenia, Moscow proceeds from the fact that Yerevan has not yet left the organization, said the Kremlin press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, RBC reports.
"Membership in the CSTO brings certain benefits to Armenia, has certain advantages and unambiguous benefits. The CSTO is an organization that has repeatedly demonstrated its effectiveness and its efficiency in recent times. And, probably, these cases of effectiveness indicate that it is in the interests of countries to continue this type of interaction and cooperation," Peskov said.
Peskov's comments were in response to Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan's remarks that Armenia will make a "final decision" on its membership in the CSTO based on the organization's partners political statements regarding Azerbaijan's actions in 2023. "Armenia's decision is sovereign. We proceed from the fact that Armenia has not left the organization, but as for the suspension or resumption of participation, we will have to see how decisions are made in Yerevan," Peskov concluded.
