ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has called on his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov not to interfere in Armenia's internal affairs. He expressed his stance in Yerevan at a joint press conference with Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Earlier, Lavrov stated that the situation in Armenia is an internal affair of this country, but the attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church are a cause for concern.
"Before this press conference, I managed to read the comments of my dear colleague Sergey Lavrov. Mr. Lavrov's information is incomplete and incorrect. If I am not mistaken, he used the expression "the authorities' fight against the church." Lavrov's information does not correspond to reality; there is no fight of the authorities against the church in Armenia. What he means implies the participation of several clergymen in political activities," the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
Additionally, he assured according to law enforcement officials, this is about the interference of several clergymen in political processes, and, "we are talking about their participation in the preparation or launch of an illegal coup."
"This is a legal process and an internal matter of Armenia. It would be better if Lavrov didn't interfere in the internal affairs of Armenia," Mirzoyan advised, and addressed a similar appeal to Russian deputies and the media, too. According to him, they should treat Armenia's sovereignty with great respect and never interfere in the country's affairs again.
