ArmInfo. RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with European Commission Vice-President, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, who is on an official visit to Armenia.
Welcoming the guest, the President specifically stated: "The Republic of Armenia has today adopted a path which, in general terms, can be described as the path of democracy, and in this regard, cooperation with the European Union is of great importance.
I can say that our cooperation has been successful, encompassing all areas of our life in political, economic, social, parliamentary, and local levels. We also highly appreciate the support provided by the European Union in helping Armenia face external political challenges."
Thanking for the warm reception, Kaja Kallas expressed her pleasure to visit Armenia and said in particular: "We value the close cooperation between Armenia and the EU and are committed to the establishment of lasting peace in Your region."
During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the multifaceted Armenia- European Union cooperation. President Khachaturyan presented Armenia's foreign policy priorities and core positions, emphasizing that Armenia is steadfastly committed to establishing peace in the region and building good neighborly relations with all neighboring countries.
Reforms implemented in recent years in Armenia, particularly in the areas of justice, anti-corruption, and the development and strengthening of democratic institutions, as well as the international support received in these directions, were highlighted.
The participants also emphasized the consistent efforts undertaken by the Armenian authorities toward the development of state and political institutions. The interlocutors exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the field of energy, particularly renewable and "green" energy, stressing the importance of boosting Armenia-EU collaboration in this area and fostering new initiatives.
"Happy to be in Armenia and meet President Armenia Khachaturyan. We discussed deepening of EU- Armenia relations, EU support to reforms and building resilience and prosperity. It is key to ensure peace and stability in the region," Ms Kalls wrote on X.
Yesterday, Kallas visited the headquarters of the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) in Yeghegnadzor.
"Honoured to host HRVP Kaja Kallas at EUMA HQ to brief her on mission activities and recent developments on the ground. EUMA is deployed to support EU efforts towards Armenia-Azerbaijan normalisation. Thank you, Kaja Kallas, for your visit!" the EUMA wrote on X.
The EU's top diplomat is in Armenia on a two-day visit. Today, her meetings are scheduled to include Kallas' meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
