ArmInfo.In Armenia, 66.8% of respondents consider Samvel Karapetyan, Russian businessman of Armenian origin and head of the Tashir Group of Companies, detained in Yerevan, to be a political prisoner, as evidenced by the poll results conducted by the consulting company MPG "Northern Lights".
According to the respondents, other political prisoners include Armen Ashotyan the Republican Party (20.1%), Varuzhan Avetisyan from the National Democratic Pole (4.1%), leader of the Sacred Struggle movement Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan (3.7%), Vardan Ghukasyan (3.3%), and philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan (2.5%), who is currently detained in Baku.
The majority of respondents in Armenia assessed Karapetyan's detention negatively. Specifically, 57.9% of respondents assessed the detention as absolutely negatively, 19.2% - rather negatively, 4.8% - rather positively, and only 11.7% fully supported the Armenian authorities' actions towards the businessman. Another 6.4% found it difficult to answer.
Note that the survey was conducted through telephone calls to residents of the Republic of Armenia from June 23 to June 25 of this year. The sample size was 1000 people, with a sampling error is +/- 3%.
