Russian journalist Margarita Simonyan comments on situation involving  Holy See of Etchmiadzin

ArmInfo. Editor-in-chief of the RT (Russia Today) TV channel Margarita Simonyan commented on what is happening today around the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, calling on Armenians to take action.

"Having returned from Turkey, Efendi Pashinyan is conducting searches  at the Catholicos of All Armenians! Armenians living in Armenia, what  are you waiting for? Until your sons' heads are cut off, and your  daughters are taken to harems - as has already happened in our  history," Simonyan asked.

Earlier, special forces of the National Security Service of Armenia  in masks entered the territory of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.  As lawyer Ara Zohrabyan stated, the investigator of the Investigative  Committee made a decision to detain the head of the Shirak Diocese,  Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan, and then he will be taken to arrest.

A scuffle between police officers and priests occurred in the  courtyard of the residence of the Mother See, who did not allow the  security forces to break into the residence of the Catholicos.

A criminal case was opened on June 17 of this year, based on a signal  received by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The reason for the  criminal case was an interview given by the bishop in February 2024  about allegedly public calls for the seizure of power and the violent  overthrow of the constitutional order, he continued.

On June 25, the Investigative Committee reported on the preparation  of terrorist acts with the aim of seizing power in Armenia by members  of the "Sacred Struggle". Large-scale searches were carried out in  the homes of the leader of the movement Bagrat Galstanyan and his  supporters. In the evening of the same day, the court arrested them.
