ArmInfo. The arrest and detention for two months of the Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church is a real disgrace! Mourad Papazian, a member of the ARF Bureau, Co-president of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF), wrote in a Facebook post.
At the same time, Papazian is sure that this detention under a far-fetched pretext is a symbol of the radicalization of Nikol Pashinyan's regime.
"Many protesters were searched, detained, convicted. These criminal cases follow Pashinyan's trip to Ankara and meeting with Erdogan. I support Archbishop Bagrat, members of the ARF and the unjustly imprisoned supporters of the "Sacred Struggle".
I know that this position may force Nikol Pashinyan to ban me from entering Armenia again, but in life we must show courage and condemn injustice," the Dashnaktsakan added.
On June 25, law enforcement officers began searching the homes of supporters of the "Sacred Struggle" movement and people with opposition views. The Investigative Committee issued a statement according to which the participants and leaders of the movement allegedly planned terrorist attacks in Armenia. According to the Investigative Committee, a number of people participated in the planning, including former police officers and military personnel. Sixteen people were detained on charges of attempting to "seize power," including the leader of the movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan. Nine people, including the archbishop, were arrested for two months. It should be noted that the arrests began a day after the Armenian prime minister announced that a coup d'etat was allegedly being prepared in the country.
