Advocate group: new "bar" for law violation  set in Samvel  Karapetyan s case

ArmInfo.Today, the judge of the Criminal Court of Appeals of Armenia has set a new <standard> for law  violation in the case of Samvel Karapetyan, as noted in the statement issued by Karapetyan's defense team.

The well-known businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan is  currently under arrest due to a clearly unfounded and illegal  decision made on June 18, 2025. The appeal filed by his legal team  was set to be reviewed by the lowest-rated judge Armen Danielyan on  June 20, 2025. Based on the above and other circumstances, on June  23, 2025, Samvel Karapetyan's advocacy group submitted a motion to  withdraw the appeal. In this short period of time, it became evident  that efforts were made to ensure that only  judge Armen Danielyan  would hear the appeal regarding Samvel Karapetyan's illegal detention  >, the statement says.

It is noted that Armen Danielyan, who was obliged to promptly  conclude the proceedings, intentionally failed to do so. Then the  prosecutor's office lodged an appeal, and the investigator's motion  was fully granted, that is, in the absence of the issue of an appeal,  an appeal was filed.  <All of this was done solely to allow Armen  Danielyan to continue presiding as a judge  and consider the  complaint at any cost. However, Armen Danielyan did not  stop there.  Today, the judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal not only issued a  ruling accepting the prosecutor's complaint for proceedings, but also  established a new precedent: the complaint from the human rights  group regarding the violation of the law, which had previously faced  a motion to reject , was also accepted for proceedings.

Additionally, the defense was only given one day to present their  arguments, and the publication date of the judicial act was set for  July 4, 2025. The unlawful detention of Samvel Karapetyan, the  shameful process of appealing it and the conduct of state bodies all  clearly point to the presence of political persecution , evident to  any unbiased observer.
