ArmInfo. The rumors that the leaders of Armenia and Turkey have discussed the issue of resettling Azerbaijanis to Armenia are not true. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan stated during a briefing on June 26.
He noted that the agenda of the meeting covered issues of bilateral relations, as well as regional topics related to the South Caucasus and the Middle East. In this vein, the deputy minister reported that the positions of Armenia and Turkey on a number of topics are quite close. When asked to disclose what was discussed in the context of the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, Kostanyan noted that in general they talked about transport communications and a document on the settlement of relations.
<For both sides, the opening of transport communications, including the railway, is very important. It is no secret that Turkey seeks to improve its channels to Central Asia, and for landlocked Armenia, open borders are of vital importance>, the Deputy Foreign Minister noted. He also said that during the meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had presented the government's Crossroads of Peace project to Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In this regard, Kostanyan noted that the Turkish side considers Armenia's proposals regarding communications to be constructive. At the same time, he emphasized that Armenia's stance remains unchanged: all open communications on the territory of our country should be under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia.
<We positively assess the negotiations that took place in Turkey and we are hopeful that the agreements we have reached with the Turkish side will be implemented," he said. In response to a question about the invitation extended to the Turkish President to visit Armenia, the deputy minister said that Nikol Pashinyan had invited Erdogan to Yerevan to participate in the summit of the European Political Community, scheduled for the spring of 2026.
