ArmInfo.Businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan was clearly illegally detained by a judge unknown to the professional community, as noted in a statement by Samvel Karapetyan's Defense Council. The statement clarifies that the accusation has no basis in Criminal Code and criminal law.
"Without any specific evidence or public call, in the context of the statement of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the indictment on public call for the seizure of power, the preparation and implementation of justice by Facebook within its framework confirm the presence of international standards of political persecution in this case," the statement emphasizes.
It is also noted that the decision to detain Samvel Karapetyan on June 19 was appealed by a human rights group in the Criminal Court of Appeals. "From the above, it follows that the court that issued the judicial act must immediately send the case materials to the Court of Appeal. The advocacy group also appealed the clearly illegal decisions regarding the search and arrest of Samvel Karapetyan. It is important to note that these were made by the same judge who is unknown to the professional community. At the same time, efforts are being made to introduce other legal instruments for the protection of rights and the elimination of violations. Additional information in this format regarding the grounds and justifications for the appeal, as well as the noteworthy circumstances of this criminal proceeding will be provided in the near future," the statement continued.
