ArmInfo. UK MPs Jim Shannon and Lord Alton of Liverpool have issued a joint public statement on behalf of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Freedom of Religion or Belief (APPG FoRB), supporting the Swiss peace initiative on Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to a report received by ArmInfo, the statement, representing the views of over 110 UK MPs who are members of the APPG, welcomed the Swiss Peace Initiative for Nagorno-Karabakh. The UK MPs emphasized the importance of ensuring the return of the displaced to their home, protecting fundamental human rights, including respect for Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and safeguarding Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage.
"Restoring security, dignity and stability for all communities in Nagorno-Karabakh is vital not only for humanitarian reasons, but also for greater stability in a volatile region of increasing geopolitical and economic importance," the statement said.
