ArmInfo. Armenia's Ministry of High-Tech Industry will soon introduce a draft law on audiovisual media, that will regulate broadcasting for IPTV, OTT, and network operators (cable TV) content, as stated by Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, in reponse to a question from parliamentarians during the government session in the National Assembly.
He made this statement in response to the recent broadcast on Rossiya 1 TV channel of the program "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov", which included unflattering statements about the Armenian authorities, under Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, specifically regarding the arrest of the famous Armenian-Russian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan. This video was later posted on some Armenian media and social media platforms. Hayrapetyan mentioned that necessary technical and legislative regulations had been carried out earlier, preventing the airing of this program on the Armenian public broadcasting network for several months. Now, as the minister noted, such regulations must also be implemented in the cable television field. Regarding the broadcasting of such content on the global network, the minister noted that this is a complex issue. "By utilizing the necessary resources and functions, we will be able to address this aspect in the near future," he promised. Additionally, the head of the department noted that the government will need to undertake significant efforts to enhance cyber hygiene and media literacy to protect our citizens from this kind of information attacks.
