Armenian businessman Samvel Karapetyan, the head of the Tashir group of companies, has been charged with absurd accusations of allegedly publicly calling for the seizure of power in the country. This information was reported to journalists by Armen Feroyan, a representatives of Karapetyan's defense team, during a conversation with the Investigative Committee of Armenia on June 18.
He noted that their client denies the accusations made against him, which he believes are groundless. Feroyan noted that anyone can verify this by listening to the recording of Karapetyan's speech. In turn, another lawyer on the defense team, Liana Gasparyan, mentioned that their client has been charged under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. This charge implies an alternative punishment, a fine or community service, and is considered a medium severity crime.
Additionally, they reported that based on the information they, even though there is currently no written court decision, the case will be heard in the court of general jurisdiction in Avan's residence. They also pointed out that aside from Karapetyan's detention, there are over 50 people whose rights to immunity were violated. The defense assured that they would address this issue at a later time.
