ArmInfo. Tehran expresses gratitude to the Armenian government for its resolute stance in condemning the Israeli aggression against Iran. This was stated by Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani at a press conference in Yerevan on June 17. According to him, Tehran also highly appreciates the support of the Armenian people. "We feel the spiritual support of the Armenian people. Long live Armenia, long live Iran," the diplomat said.
When asked whether Azerbaijan could take advantage of the current situation and attack Armenia's Syunik region, the ambassador noted that Iran is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with the Armenian authorities.The diplomat also avoided answering questions regarding the possible involvement of Azerbaijan in the conflict, stating that Tehran relies on confirmed data to draw conclusions.
According to him, the official position of states is important for the Iranian side, and the Azerbaijani side has clearly condemned the aggression. Sobhani added that the Iranian authorities are in contact with the government of Azerbaijan to address any potential issues.When asked about the number of Iranian citizens exiting the country through Armenia, the diplomat noted that he did not have that information. However, he acknowledged that there were requests to organize the crossings of third-country citizens and appropriate assistance was provided.
The diplomat also reported that the Iranian Embassy in Armenia is currently working on organizing the return of Iranian citizens from Armenian territory due to the closure of air borders between the two countries. He added that there is a shortage of Iranian buses because of reduced transport caused by the conflict. The Iranian embassy has requested the services of Armenian bus companies. Sobhani also stated that the work being done by the Iranian side in Armenia will remain unchanged.
