ArmInfo.Iran's attacks on Israeli energy facilities pose serious risks for Azerbaijani capital as well. Vahe Davtyan, expert in cross-border infrastructure projects, Doctor of Political Sciences and professor, wrote on his Facebook page.
He noted that in the Iran-Israel conflict, energy infrastructure has emerged as a primary strategic target. Tehran's latest attacks on the Israeli energy system are not just military, but also have a distinct geo- economic dimension.
Late yesterday evening, key facilities in Israel's energy infrastructure were hit by missile strikes. The strikes disabled power supply systems in the central regions of the country, leading to large-scale power outages. The Leviathan and Karish gas fields, two strategic hubs in Israel's energy system for both domestic energy supply and export strategy, were among the targets.
He recalled that the mentioned fields are currently being developed by a consortium consisting of BP, NewMed and Azerbaijan's SOCAR. The latter also acquired a 10% stake in the Tamar field in May of this year, increasing its presence in Israel's gas sector.
There were also attacks on Haifa's oil refineries, one of the country's largest industrial complexes. These actions by Tehran can be seen as an "energy counterattack" in response to Israel's past actions, specifically the attack on Iran's South Pars field.
