ArmInfo. The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, has touched upon the risks facing Armenia, particularly the Syunik region, in light of the Iran-Israel conflict.
<We are closely monitoring the situation. However, currently, there is no concern that this could in any way affect our relations with our neighbor (Azerbaijan). But, since, firstly, the communication (with Azerbaijan) is ongoing and there are specific processes that are currently in progress. And we do not see immediate risks (risks for Syunik) at the moment>, he said at a briefing with journalists in parliament on June 17.
According to him, Yerevan is in constant contact with international partners. Simonyan also assured that the risks in the Syunik issue as well as the consequences of developments inside Iran and their impact on the border situation, were assessed from the first moment of the conflict escalation between Tehran and Tel Aviv. "At the moment, there are no flows from there, nothing like that has been recorded on our border," he said. He also mentioned that the situation may worsen if the conflict continues and other countries get involved. "We need a stable neighbor and what is happening is unacceptable to us," the NA speaker said.
