ArmInfo. President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who is on an official visit to Yerevan.
As reported by the presidential office, welcoming the guest, Vahagn Khachaturyan expressed satisfaction with the high level, regular dialogue and mutual visits between Armenia and the Council of Europe, which were marked by a busy agenda during the current year. Alain Berset, in turn, noted that this visit underlines the support that the CoE has always provided to Armenia. <We are truly deeply impressed by the developments that the country has had over the past 30 years>, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe noted.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the close cooperation of Armenia and the Council of Europe in establishing democratic institutions. In this context, the importance of the comprehensive reforms carried out by the Armenian authorities in the direction of protecting democratic values, the rule of law, as well as fundamental human and civil rights and freedoms was emphasized. Touching upon the regional security situation, Vahagn Khachaturyan presented Armenia's stance, reaffirming the country's determination to achieve stable and lasting peace. The President noted that Armenia is fully committed to its international obligations and is ready for constructive cooperation aimed at strengthening stability and security in the region.
Alain Berset, in turn, emphasized the Council of Europe's willingness to continue supporting Armenia in strengthening democratic institutions, developing the justice system and protecting human rights. He emphasized the importance of implementing sustainable and inclusive reforms as the basis of a democratic society and noted that the Council of Europe will continue to be a reliable partner in this process.
