ArmInfo. Russia shares Azerbaijan's concerns regarding the actions of some forces in Armenia. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, made this statement at a briefing on June 11.
According to Zakharova, the activities of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia, which spy on Armenia's neighboring countries, are of concern. They do not report to Yerevan, and they do not contribute to any stability in the region.
As for the Russian military base in Armenia, Zakharova noted that Moscow has not received any signal from Yerevan about its possible withdrawal. "There is no such issue on the agenda, Yerevan understands that the Russian military presence in Armenia is an important element of the security architecture in Armenia and the entire South Caucasus," Maria Zakharova said. She mentioned that the deployment and activities of the Russian military base in Armenia are regulated by relevant bilateral documents. "Officials of the republic have confirmed, including publicly, that such issues are not currently being discussed. The status of the base has never been raised in the context of Russia's interaction with Azerbaijan. In March of this year, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Treaty on the deployment of the Russian military base in Armenia, and I congratulate you all on this," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
