ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already decided for himself that Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II has broken his vow of celibacy and demands an explanation from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin about what happens when it turns out that an unmarried clergyman has broken his vow of celibacy.
, he wrote today on a social network.
The campaign against the AAC was launched with Pashinyan's statement on May 29 at a cabinet meeting, when he compared the churches of Armenia to closets. Then he wrote offensive statements about the hierarchs of the AAC, and raised the issue of the celibacy of Armenian clergy, in particular the Catholicos of All Armenians. And the prime minister's wife called the clergy "the main pedophiles of the country".
This was preceded by a statement by Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II at an international conference in Bern, in which he stated that Azerbaijan continues to destroy Armenian Christian and cultural-historical monuments in the region, and also holds representatives of the Karabakh leadership and other citizens captive. And from that moment on, he came out every day demanding an explanation of the question - whether Garegin II adhered to the vow of celibacy.
Having received no answer, the other day he himself stated that the Catholicos has a child and he should resign. Forcing the events the previous morning, Pyashinyan called for to remove Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II and announced the creation of a special coordination group for and settlement of organizational issues for holding new elections of the Catholicos. The first 10 members of the Coordination Group, who , will be chosen by the Prime Minister himself.
Amid the attacks of the Armenian authorities against the AAC, hundreds of people went to the airport on Wednesday night to express their support for the Supreme Patriarch, who returned from a trip to the United Arab Emirates.
