On June 4, the Corruption Prevention Commission received a statement from the rector of the Academy of Advocates of Armenia, Ara Zohrabyan, regarding the statements made by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan against representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Acting Chairperson of the Commission Mariam Galstyan stated this in a conversation with journalists in parliament on June 6.
According to her, the Commission has already initiated a case in on one of the points in the statement, on its own initiative. This specific point was in relation to the Prime Minister's remarks posted on May 30 ( - ed.). The other alleged violations are being investigated and a decision regarding them may be reached as early as Tuesday, May 9.
Galstyan explained that after initiating proceedings, the Commission issues two types of conclusions - one determining whether there have been violations of conduct rules or not. If violations are identified, persons holding political positions bear public, political responsibility. That is, the Commission publishes information about the fact of the violation, and must publicly acknowledge and explain their actions.
